# Identify companies visiting your website

> Use Waterfall Company Reveal to connect website activity with company profiles and add company context to your account workflows.

See which companies may be visiting your website with Waterfall Company Reveal. When a match is available, use the company's name, domain, industry, and size to review the account and decide what to do next.

## Look up an IPv4 address

Your application supplies the address and decides which website events to process. The following request uses a documentation-only IP address; replace it with a real IPv4 address before testing. No company match is implied for this example.

```bash theme={null}
curl --request POST 'https://api.waterfall.io/v1/company-reveal' \
  --header "x-api-key: $WATERFALL_API_KEY" \
  --header 'Content-Type: application/json' \
  --data '{
    "ip": "192.0.2.10",
    "custom_fields": {
      "event_id": "event_1042"
    }
  }'
```

The response contains the result directly. Read `output.company` for available organization details, `output.type` for the classification, and `output.confidence_score` for the confidence label. An unresolved company can be represented by an empty object.

## Decide whether the result fits your account workflow

Review these fields together before associating an event with a company:

| Field | What to inspect |
| - | - |
| `company` | Available organization details, such as domain, name, industry, and size. |
| `type` | `company`, `education`, `government`, `isp`, or `null`. An ISP result is not the visitor's employer. |
| `confidence_score` | `very_high`, `high`, `medium`, `low`, or `null`. The API does not define a percentage probability for each label. |
| `ip_geo` | Available city, state, and country context for the IP. |

Your workflow can use an acceptable company match to look up an existing account or enrich account activity. Keep unresolved results separate and validate useful matches on your own traffic before automating this step.

## Does this identify the person visiting my website?

No. Company Reveal looks up organization context for an IP address. It does not identify a person or prove that the visitor works for the returned organization. Shared networks, internet providers, and VPNs can affect what an IP represents. IP location is also not proof of the visitor's exact location or the company's headquarters.

## Does Waterfall install a website pixel or track visits?

This API receives the IP address your application submits. Your integration handles event collection, filtering, and subsequent account actions. The endpoint does not install a pixel or define a visitor-tracking workflow.

## What if I already have the company domain?

Use [Company Enrichment](https://docs.waterfall.io/v1/company-enrichment-launcher.md) to retrieve the company's available profile directly from its domain. Company Reveal is for workflows that start with an IPv4 address.

## Can I retrieve the result later?

Yes. Use the job ID in `input.task.job_id` with [Company Reveal Finder](https://docs.waterfall.io/v1/company-reveal-finder.md) to retrieve the saved job. This is a lookup of an existing result, not a new IP check.
